It’s been a while, huh?

My peeps, it’s been a long, cold, lonely winter. Having newborns in Chicago in the wintertime is not a picnic, let me tell you. Prior to their birth, I of course thought I would be sashaying off to this thrift store and that estate sale all during my maternity leave but THAT DIDN’T HAPPEN. First of all, it’s really hard to get infant twins down three flights of stairs that are covered in six inches of snow. Secondly, sleep schedules are doubly important with two babies so I have pretty much been a prisoner in my own home in an effort to make sure we had a routine and were sticking to it. Despite keeping me locked away from my precious vintage finds, that plan has really paid off — Emmeline has been sleeping through the night (starting at 7 pm and sleeping until her brother wakes her up around 6 am) for about a month now and Jack is on his way. He’s our early riser, getting up usually sometime between 4:30 and 5:30, but yesterday morning he slept until 6 am, so we’re making progress.

But you didn’t come here to read about babies! I never wanted to be one of those people who had kids and that’s all they could ever talk about. It’s hard, though, when your entire day consists of nothing but babies. So I’m going to try my best to keep the focus of Pretty Quirky on vintage finds and off of babies…I have another outlet for that (more on that later).

My amazing husband and I have worked out a deal on weekends: he takes Saturdays with the babies, and I take Sundays. So on Saturday, I am free to go yard saling to my heart’s desire. That hasn’t been much of a deal until the last weekend or so because, of course, Chicago hasn’t really warmed up until now (and even now they’re threatening cold weather returning next week. BOOOOOO.). Yesterday I had a lovely day, shopping at a few rummage sales and then hitting a neighborhood sale. It felt like a real return to normalcy, and I’m looking forward to my Saturdays to come. Of course, right now I have no plans to re-sell things, so that makes it a little more boring for me. I didn’t realize how much fun it was to find something for a great price that I knew I could sell in either my booth or one of the Vintage Bazaars. Plus, we’re contemplating a move closer to our family, so I am probably going to have a big, blow-out yard sale and try and de-clutter, so the last thing I need is to be bringing home a lot of stuff in the meantime…but you know I can’t help myself.

I am, of course, finding a lot of baby stuff out there (why does anyone buy anything new for babies??) but won’t bore you with that stuff here. Instead, Justin and I are in the process of taking our baby blog live — you should be able to see it soon here. I’ll keep all baby stuff there so that this doesn’t totally turn into a mommy blog.

I didn’t find anything earth shattering yesterday, but did get a few fun finds:

Two chickies for my collection, although the one on the left is the wrong color. It’s a wall pocket. I can’t tell if it’s old or if it’s just made to look old — it’s stamped 98 on the bottom. The milk glass chicken is awesome. It’s a dish — the top half lifts off the bottom half. I’ve seen the milk glass chickens on nests but never one standing up without a nest.

Exhibit A in what I should not be buying these days. Both of these items would have been great for resale, I think, especially at a venue like the Vintage Bazaar. But I just have no room for them. Come on, though, vintage safety deposit boxes? And a vintage card catalog drawer? All for a song? How could I resist?

And last, I got four vintage Readers for a quarter a piece. They’re not in great shape but the illustrations cannot be beat — one of them, Tip, has a character named Jack with photos just ripe for framing for a certain Jack’s nursery. Speaking of…

I can’t NOT post a photo of them, right? Even if this isn’t a Mommy blog.

Hope to post new finds soon! If you’re still following the blog, thanks for sticking through the past five months with no updates…I appreciate it!

The Thriftaholic (Leilani) YAY! I’m so glad to see an update from you!!! I look at my lovely aqua phone from you every day and was sad that you didn’t update your blog anymore. It’s great to know that you’re doing well and your twins are so beautiful.

Are you thinking of moving back to Arkansas?? I was just back in Fayetteville this week after a 2 week trip to the Philippines.

Marsha Hurray!! I haven’t checked your blog in a while and just got back in town and clicked through my bookmarked websites…and there you were!

Great that you’re getting out again…and those babies are soooo cute! I’ve been wondering if you were thinking of moving nearer to your family. Keep us all posted and have fun with the little ones.

Shara I have one of those old safety deposit boxes, but I didn’t know it was that until I read it on your blog. I was iffy on mine, but now that I know what it is – I love it! Thanks for enlightening me.

Your finds are good, but your babies are AWESOME. Don’t you worry about baby overload on here. Those are some sweet babycheeks! 🙂
