The Twins Have Arrived!

I really didn’t mean to take a five-month hiatus here at Pretty Quirky, but things got a little hectic there at the end of my pregnancy. Jack, our little boy, slowed his growth at the end of November and we had to closely monitor things from that point on…on December 16, at one of my non-stress test appointments, the ultrasound revealed that his amniotic fluid was starting to become depleted so we ended up doing an emergency c-section that evening. Our babies were in the NICU for two weeks, which was the most stressful period of my entire life…I have a newfound respect and sympathy for parents who have premature babies. We were so lucky — ours just basically needed to gain weight — but it was still so horrible seeing them hooked up to monitors with wires and tubes attached to their limbs. But they’re home now — Emmeline Jane and Jack Robert have both gained nearly three pounds! They seem huge to us, but are still pretty small.

That’s Jack on the left and Emmeline on the right. I think they’re adorable, but then, I may be biased.

I’m not sure when I’m going to get back to thrift, estate, and yard sale shopping; the kiddies are pretty time-consuming. I’m on maternity leave until late May and I foolishly had visions of packing them up into their stroller and taking them thrift store shopping with me; I forgot that 1. winter in Chicago is horrible and no one wants to take newborns outside and 2. two babies are HEAVY! Plus, I’m paranoid about getting them off their schedule — the one good thing about them being in the NICU is that we had professionals implement their feeding/sleeping schedule. All we had to do was stick to it once they got home. That saved us a lot of work.

Please check back on me, though, because as soon as I can, I will be continuing my posts on second-hand shopping…looking forward to getting back into the swing of things!

Kathleen Lara! Nice work!!! Look at those adorable littles! And I love how Emmeline is waving hello! Back at you, you cute thing!!!

I have friends here in Andersonville who have twins who are under a year. They’ve maintained sanity– if you want to talk with them I’d be happy to connect you!

Congratulations to you all! I’m so very happy for you!

Shara Oh, they are beautiful! I have been wondering about you and those babies. Happy to hear they are okay. NICU is a scary place, but they sure do take care of those precious babies…and Mom. Lovin’ that monkey sleeper…….:D

Marsha It’s such good news that you’ve recovered enough to post here again! Though I’ve seen some photos of your beautiful babies, it was good to hear the details of how it all happened. (And Debra showed me your Facebook posts.) Congratulations to your whole family…surviving this winter will be an additional landmark for you all with lots of stories for years to come!
