Why I Love Garage Sales.

My friend Shannon just gave me (GAVE ME! FOR FREE!) this beautiful planter (is it McCoy? Anyone?). Her mother has been having regular garage sales for most of her life. Shannon estimates that this planter has been sitting at those garage sales for going on ten years now — with a fifty cent price tag. And it has never sold. WHAT? HOW? It defies imagination. But that, my friend, is why I go to yard sales. Some people eschew yard sales because there’s a lot of crap to paw through to find the good stuff, but this planter is exactly why I continue to go — because the treasures are out there and, more often than not, are priced ridiculously low. At the height of yard sale season in Chicago, I can literally go from 8 am until 5 pm — there are THAT MANY yard sales. Delicious.

Thanks, Shanny!!

Shannon I think my mom was more glad to get rid of something that had been there so long!

Yay for posting again!

Stephanie @ kitschicagoan What a great planter. You must teach me the secret of garage sale-hopping. I’m just getting started and my first time out I didn’t even know where to start!
