Bonus gift with purchase.

At the estate sale where I got the linens, there was a ton of sewing stuff…which, as we all know, I love. Everything was pretty much a mess by the time we got there, and I had a lot of fun rooting through the remains. I found this cool needlepoint sewing box:

I knew there was stuff inside of it, but it looked like odds and ends, nothing too exciting, and I was moving too fast to find a place to put them once I removed them, so I figured, what the heck, I’ll buy them too. The cashier sifted through them and gave me the whole shebang for $2. Score! When I got home, I went through the stuff and found these:

They are be-yoo-ti-ful black glass carved buttons.  There are fourteen or fifteen of them (I’m too lazy to get up and count right now) and  I am in love with them. This is not a very good picture, but there were some other great vintage buttons in there:

The ones on the left are painted porcelain, and the ones on the right are a mix of metal and painted metal. I love that the seamstress kept these lovingly tucked away in a jewelry box — those must have been her very special buttons.

I really loved every part of this purchase.

janie hightower Awwww, that’ll be me when I’m gone and y’all have the estate sale. Only my stuff will be all chipped and scratched up and plastic, and people will say, What the hell did she keep all this junk for? And they’ll go tsk, tsk.

janie hightower Forgot to say how much I love the box and the buttons are beautiful… those black ones could be made into a necklace by someone with the right equipment (which would not be me).

Besides, I’m keeping all of your crap when you kick the bucket.

Shannon That is a great find! I love the black buttons…and I too could see that being made into a necklace. Have you ever thought about trying out making jewelery? I know a lot of craft stores have tons of materials! I love the iridescent button in the jewelery box…so unique!
