I have no idea what these are, but I LOVE them. You know how you’ll spot something from across a yard and your heart will start beating really fast and you’ll make a beeline over to the something, hoping that no one gets in front of you and knowing you’ll elbow them out of the way if they do? Yeah. That’s how I felt about these. Yet I have no idea what they are.
Some of them have these little shovels on the bottom. Some of them have picks. A friend suggested that the ones with the little spoons might be gelato spoons, which seems possible, since they’re stamped “Made in Italy”.
I have no idea what they are or what I’ll use them for. But they’re little faces are so painstakingly carved, their painted faces so expressive, I just had to have them. Right now, they’re sitting in my kitchen hutch, and they make me smile each time I pass by them.
And isn’t that a good enough reason to pay fifty cents apiece for them? Yes, I say. Yes, it is.
